The 4C's of Diamond - Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat.
The 4Cs of diamonds—Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat Weight—are the universal standards for evaluating the quality and value of diamonds. Developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), these criteria provide a comprehensive framework for understanding a diamond's unique characteristics. Each "C" plays a significant role in determining a diamond's beauty and worth, making it essential for buyers to understand their importance when selecting a diamond.
Cut
The Cut of a diamond is perhaps the most crucial factor in its overall brilliance and fire. Cut refers to how well the diamond's facets interact with light, encompassing proportions, symmetry, and polish. A well-cut diamond will reflect light internally and emit a dazzling sparkle, while a poorly cut diamond may appear dull. The cut grading ranges from Excellent to Poor, and it significantly impacts the diamond's visual appeal.

Colour
Colour measures the absence of colour in a diamond, with the highest quality diamonds being completely colourless. The GIA colour scale ranges from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Subtle differences in colour can dramatically affect a diamond's value and appearance.
Anais Rose stocks only the finest white diamonds.

Clarity
Clarity assesses the presence of internal flaws (inclusions) and external imperfections (blemishes) within a diamond. The clarity scale ranges from Flawless (no inclusions visible under 10x magnification) to Included (inclusions visible to the naked eye). While most diamonds have some imperfections, those with fewer and smaller inclusions are more valuable. However, many inclusions are microscopic and do not affect the diamond's beauty. Balancing clarity with other factors can help buyers find a diamond that meets both their aesthetic preferences and budget.

Carat
Finally, Carat Weight refers to the physical weight of the diamond, with one carat equal to 0.2 grams. While carat weight often correlates with size, the visual appearance of a diamond also depends on its cut. Two diamonds of the same carat weight can appear different in size and brilliance if their cuts vary. Larger diamonds are rarer and thus command higher prices, but buyers should also consider the quality of the other 3Cs when choosing the perfect diamond.
